About Aphra

We believe in the power of purpose-led storytelling. Our namesake, Aphra Behn (1640–1689), was a pioneering English writer, poet, and playwright, one of the first women to make a living from writing. She defied 17th-century norms with daring works like The Rover and Oroonoko, exploring themes of gender, power, and colonialism.

Despite criticism for her boldness, Behn became a feminist icon, with Virginia Woolf noting, "All women together ought to let flowers fall upon the grave of Aphra Behn… for it was she who earned them the right to speak their minds." Behn’s spirit of defiance and creativity still inspires those who challenge boundaries and champion free expression.

Aphra has been shortlisted for Market Disruptor of the Year at The Growing Business Awards 2025.

Previously in 2024, Grace Carter and The Metamorphose Group were shortlisted for the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ award.
The Metamorphose Group was shortlisted for the Established Business of the Year category in the East of England at the 2024 Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
